A Promise of Kneropy is an artist-run space founded in 2020 by APART Collective and SORRYWECAN that roofs a gallery, and the affiliated reading and study room with library.
The gallery represents a physical extension of our exhibiting and curatorial projects and gives spaces for both local and international artists and collectives. We’ve launched our exhibition program with Gaming the Aftermath by Diffractions Collective.
KNEROPY = a new word that defines a suprainfinitic phenomenon: the moment of transformation which happens when you give or receive the hug of utopian, profound, visionary ideas that make way for a change.
The moment of transformation, of one encountering artworks, ideas, or books that can carry the potential of transformation in society is one utopian thought, one moment of transformation at a time. Such encounter can be articulated and enacted as something warm, friendly, caring, disarming, and bewitching – a hug.
The name ”A Promise of Kneropy” carries the possibilities of transformation, hints to utopian ideas and the complex processes of bringing them to reality, and allures us, the invited artists and audience to discover its meaning. It marks our keen commitment to offering the possibility of getting that hug, of enabling this moment through exhibitions, books, lectures, and anything in between. We believe that imagining, disseminating, and discussing urgent topics can find ways of getting these ideas and artworks across from the art sphere to other spheres and communities to bring a positive change.
A promise that is neverending, everchanging, self-regenerating, and vitalizing. In this case, A Promise of Kneropy becomes for APART and collaborators a decisive act of care and genuine commitment to potentially fulfill afresh with each work, talk, and visit.
The name was invented by the transdisciplinary art collective Apparatus 22
